Machines For Singing
Earshot worked with artists Rowena Easton and Mike Blow for a unique audio art project funded through the Art Plus Award scheme.
Machines For Singing was an architectural sound installation, which 'plugged in' to a building to record the subsonic and supersonic life of its fabric. Samples were processed, to create a symphony out of the interplay of environmental forces with structural elements - experienced as the building's own music.
By making audible sounds that we would not otherwise hear, the artists encouraged people to experience architecture as a “living” structure, inviting us to think about the built environment in new ways.
Together with Sound Solutions, an acoustic consultancy, the installation took place at the Gardner Arts Centre, near Brighton and was one of the last installations held there before it was closed down. Photos courtesy of Barbs Attwood, Sound Solutions.
